Procedures

Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin with a brief discussion on fractions, explaining that they represent parts of a whole.
- Use the whiteboard to illustrate simple fractions, such as 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4.

Demonstration (10 minutes):
- Show students how to create a whole shape using magnetic tiles (e.g., a square).
- Demonstrate how to divide the shape into equal parts to represent different fractions. For example, divide a square into two equal triangles to represent 1/2.

Hands-On Activity (20 minutes):
- Distribute magnetic tiles and fraction cards to students.
- Instruct students to select a fraction card and use the tiles to represent that fraction by dividing a whole shape into equal parts.
- Encourage students to explore different ways to represent the same fraction using various shapes and tile combinations.

Group Discussion and Sharing (10 minutes):
- Have students share their creations with the class, explaining how they represented their chosen fractions.
- Discuss the different methods used and reinforce the concept that fractions are equal parts of a whole.
Assessment
- Observe students during the hands-on activity to assess their understanding of fractions and their ability to represent them using the tiles.
- Evaluate students' explanations during the group discussion to ensure they can articulate the concept of fractions accurately.
Extension
- Challenge students to represent more complex fractions, such as 2/3 or 3/4, using the magnetic tiles.
- Introduce addition and subtraction of fractions by combining and removing tile sections.
